AUG. 6, 2011 • Gaming peripheral company Razer opened its third product design center in Taipei. The first two centers were established in San Francisco and Singapore. The Taipei team will support other design centers at first, but will take on other responsibilities as staff is increased from 20 to 100 employees during the next year.

Impact: While China gets most of the attention during discussions about where Razer is expanding, Taiwan is also an important market for this manufacturer of peripherals for competitive gaming. Asian gamers also present a different set of ergonomic challenges for input devices that must be addressed, which led to the lighter and more compact Salmosa model. But the company is also diversifying its product line significantly with a complete series of high-end gaming audio products, and even a gaming laptop. Expanding and supporting so many product lines requires more design centers.
