Xbox 360 Console Sales Up

OCT. 29, 2010 • Microsoft’s Entertainment and Devices division rides into the holiday season with good tidings. Xbox 360 console sales were up 38 percent for the quarter ending Sept. 30, with 2.8 million units sold. The  division reported quarterly revenue of $1.8 billion, up 27% from 2009. ZeniMax Acquires Tango Gameworks

OCT. 28, 2010 • Fresh off of receiving a $150 million round of investment from Providence Equity Partners, ZeniMax Media is back on the acquisition hunt. Shinji Mikami’s Japanese studio Tango Gameworks was snapped up for an undisclosed amount. Mikani is best known as one of the creators of the Resident Evil franchise. Within a week the company had also acquired Swedish developer Machinegames, which was promptly renamed to ZeniMax Sweden. .....

Another Chinese Wii Clone from 3DiJoy

OCT. 28, 2010 • There’s another Wii clone in the works for the Chinese market that is taking advantage of the government’s restrictions on game consoles made outside the country. What’s novel about the new device from 3DiJoy Corp. is that it is designed as a service for IP televisions coming to market – no hardware needed except for the motion controllers. For 133 Yuan ($20) for the controllers, and another 30 Yuan a month ($4.50) for IPTV s.....

Starsiege Tribes Redux

OCT. 25, 2010 • More than a decade after the trend-sending Starsiege Tribes online FPS multiplayer game from Dynamix was making a name for itself, Global Agenda developer Hi-Rez Studios has acquired ownership of the property. Hi-Rez plans to release an MMO based on the franchise called Tribes Universe. Alpha testing will commence in 2011. Three factions, will be featured with support for large-scale PVP battles of more than 100 players. The world will be persist.....

DFC Intelligence recently published a major report on client-based free-to-play games. This report forecasts the number of registered users for these games to reach 633 million by 2015, just for English language games.
