PlayStation 4 Launch Sales Top 2.1 Million

DEC. 3, 2013 • As of December 1 the PlayStation 4 launch sales had topped more than 2.1 million units. Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) says 1.4 million of those units were sold in the U.S. and Latin America, with the remaining 700,000 distributed by SCE Europe, which includes Australia and New Zealand. According to Gfk Chart-Track, 250,000 PS4s were sold in the United Kingdom during the first 48 hours after its Nov. 29 launch, which makes the system the fastes.....

Blu-ray Replacement Planned

JULY 30, 2013 • Sony Corp. and Panasonic Corp., who were primary partners in developing the Blu-ray optical discs, have come forward to announce that they are working together on a higher capacity format. The goal is the developing a new optical disc with a capacity of no less than 300GB by 2015. Current Blu-ray capacities are 25GB (single layer), 50GB (dual layer), 100GB (triple layer), and 128GB (quad layer). Both companies are framing the new format as a next.....

PlayStation Vita Sales Upswing In Japan

MARCH 15, 2013 • Moving the price on all PlayStation Vita SKUs in Japan to ¥19,980 ($213) has been well received by consumers there. In each of the two weeks since the Feb. 28 markdown the Vita has surged to the top of the retail charts, according to research firm Media Create.
