MAY 21, 2010 • Following the successful introduction of a virtual item riding mount in World of Warcraft, Sony Online Ent. introduced three EverQuest II virtual item mounts. The three Prowler mounts will be available for purchase on Station Marketplace for at least a month for 2,500 Station Cash.

Impact: It is now obvious that large numbers of MMO subscribers are completely open to paying extra for vanity items. True, there is a chorus of discontent from more orthodox MMO gamers of long standing who see such virtual sales as a cheat. But in 2010, such accusations no longer carry any stigma with the larger majority of players who don’t give a hoot if they have to pay a nominal sum for something cool in-game.
