SEPT. 2, 2008 • A Buffy the Vampire Slayer MMO is under development by Multiverse. Players will have the choice of entering a fully interactive 3D Buffy world, or playing Flash-based 2D games available via a web browser. The developer already has another TV series MMO project connected with the sci-fi program Firefly in development.

Impact: The problem with the virtual world space is finding a theme that makes it more than just a glorified chat/social network.  The idea of tying a virtual world into a television series could have interesting possibilities.  Buffy the Vampire is now widely in syndication and episodes are even available for download via the PlayStation Network.  We would not expect, such an MMO to be a breakout success, but low-end online game products could finally be a solid way to promote a larger media franchise.
