Majesco Loves Wii

MARCH 11, 2008 • While most major game publishers have found success on Nintendo’s hot platforms elusive, Majesco Ent. has had no problems leveraging the success of the Wii and DS. For the first fiscal quarter ending Jan. 31, the publisher reported net revenue grew 75% to $32.8 million, and net profi ts 54% to $4.2 million. Jillian Michaels Fitness Ultimatum 2009 for the Wii has sold 500,000 units in the U.S., and the four SKUs from the Cooking Mama DS franchise have moved more than 3.7million units.

Impact: It is not surprising that a company like Majesco would be one of the first to truly capitalize on the success of Nintendo platforms. Majesco got its start by focusing on relaunching older properties. In the late 1990s, Majesco got a license to remanufacture new versions of Sega systems that were no longer in production, including the Genesis and Game Gear. The company had struggled recently trying to enter the high-end console market. Majesco is now firmly back in its roots as a value game publisher.
