According to SCE, the PSP will be able to access the PlayStation Store without having to be connected to a PS3. Users will still have to connect to the home console, however, if they want to take advantage of a new free service permitting them to play PSP titles against other players online. One of the first games to support the new service is Capcom&#8217;s Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G. On Oct. 16, the new PSP-3000 will debut for \u00a519,800 ($185).\u00a0 The new model, featuring a high-contrast LCD screen and built-in microphone, will ship in white, silver and black versions.<\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">Impact: Surprisingly connectivity for portable systems has never been a major deal.\u00a0 It seems most users play each other when they are in the same location.\u00a0 Having to connect to a home console, or even a home network, will limit the user base dramatically.\u00a0 In short, Wi-Fi connectivity for portable systems is still a feature in progress, and is currently not a selling point for game systems.\u00a0 However, the idea of a new PSP SKU with an improved LCD screen at a consumer friendly price is the type of feature that should help drive consumers to the PSP platform.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>SEPT. 3, 2008 \u2022 PSP owners in Japan will get new connectivity enhancements this fall.
